Twitter may be fairly new in terms of its application as a communications tool that is freely and publicly available; however in terms of thinking of Twitter as a marketing tool, the principles of successful marketing will never change. It doesn&#039;t matter how many connections, names, &quot;friends&quot; you may have if nobody gives a damn about what you have to contribute. 

Another good tool for measuring your influence is www.klout.com who take a number of the specific metrics you have mentioned, and combine with other factors such as your immediate and extended reach, and combine this with a proprietary measurement that they call your &quot;influence&quot; score. I find this very useful.
